How Do You Redact A PDF Before Sending It To AI?
Make a separate copy, identify details the task does not need, apply real PDF redaction, and inspect the exported file. A black rectangle or highlight alone is not proof that underlying text has been removed.
Witalias applies redaction to selected content and writes a fresh PDF. You can use short aliases where the relationship matters, such as replacing repeated occurrences of a person’s name with Person A.
From Original PDF To Reviewed Private Copy
1. Open the Witalias workspace. Choose the sample, or sign in and select an English text-based PDF up to 20 MB and 50 pages. The file is processed by a worker on your device.
2. Review the suggested details. Choose Replace With, Remove or Keep Original. Add exact custom terms for details the detector missed, or draw a removal area. Review all pages and any images.
3. Create the private copy. Witalias applies your selections and checks the output with the local engine. Check the private-copy preview yourself, including layout and replacement labels.
4. Download the private copy and choose whether to attach it to your AI assistant. Witalias does not send it to that service for you.
Does PDF Redaction Preserve The Layout?
For supported PDFs, page count, dimensions and surrounding content positions stay in place. Selected text changes, and replacement labels may use a different font. Short aliases are easier to fit legibly. An export is blocked if a required label does not fit.
Witalias removes original annotations, links, document metadata and embedded attachments. It does not preserve form behaviour or guarantee tagged accessibility structure. Review the result using the tools your document requires.
What Does A Successful Export Tell You?
The local engine reopens the output and checks selected original text, replacement labels and page dimensions. Passing these checks does not establish that every private detail was found, that image metadata was sanitised, or that the document is anonymous.
Keep the original somewhere safe. Clear Session ends active processing, while downloaded copies remain on your device. Witalias cannot recall a file already shared with an AI provider.
